We may not have our lives together, but we have lots of opinions on yours.
Question: What’s the best time of the year to start getting working papers?
Olivia’s advice: I would say to get your working papers ASAP. Even if you never use them, I feel like they’re good to have. I got my working papers freshman year and now I’m a junior and I’ve never used them. In my mind, it can’t hurt to have them.
Sophia’s advice: I would definitely say as soon as you could because they’re good to have on hand in case a job opportunity comes up and they aren’t too hard to get from guidance.
Question: Would you rather have 1 million dollars today or 10 million dollars tomorrow?
Olivia’s advice: I would definitely wait and get 10 million dollars tomorrow. I mean, come on, that’s an extra nine million just for being patient for one day. For ten million, I’d bubble-wrap myself, stay home, and avoid all possible life-threatening situations until the clock strikes midnight. No driving, no stairs, no risky decisions: just me, my couch, and maybe a helmet, just in case.
Sophia’s advice: Definitely 10 million dollars tomorrow because I could do a lot more in my life with that much money and I’m not that impatient, I could wait 24 hours. Plus, I doubt anything bad would happen to me within that time span if I just live my normal life.
Question: My wife and I are having a baby in a few weeks, but neither of us are particularly cool. What are some important things we can teach our kid to help them be a cool baby/kid? How to wear the best fashions? How to jump puddles on a tricycle? What 6-7 means? Basic witchcraft? How to survive in the woods? Should my baby already be managing their social media accounts before birth? Any advice is appreciated.
-Sincerely, Nervous New Parent
Olivia’s advice: Congratulations! You’re about to raise a baby who might someday be cool, but only if you follow my highly scientific advice: start them early on tricycle stunts, puddle-jumping techniques, and advanced broomstick flight. Teach them to brew invisible potions, interpret the secret language of squirrels, and survive mild forest combat. Sunglasses indoors are mandatory. Social media management begins at approximately 27 weeks gestation. Remember: if your baby isn’t moonwalking by their first birthday, you’ve failed.
Sophia’s advice: First off congratulations! And second I think basic witchcraft is the most important thing to start with. I would advise starting with the easier stuff like tarot cards and spells and then move on to potions because those can be messy. Also tricycle stunts are a must, like before they start walking, because while everyone else is bragging about how their baby is starting to crawl you get to brag about how your baby can do tricks on a tricycle and jump puddles.
Question: Why is it so hard for people to walk in the hallway this year?
Olivia’s advice: Walking in the hallway this year is basically an obstacle course. Everyone’s carrying backpacks, chatting, and dodging each other at full speed. My advice: weave like a ninja and maybe bring a helmet. Hallway survival is serious business.
Sophia’s advice: I honestly do not have a good answer, but it’s so annoying to me because it’s like everyone is kind of in their own world when they should be paying attention to their surroundings, especially on the stairs because somebody’s someone is bound to get hurt. Be careful and pay attention to your surroundings
Question: What are some book recommendations you have?? I really like fantasy, some psychological thrillers, and young adult romance!!
Olivia’s advice: We have really similar book taste! I would really recommend the A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder series by Holly Jackson. It’s a trilogy but there’s also a novella (I would read the novella last) you won’t be able to put it down. I would also recommend the duology If He Had Been With Me which is incredibly sad but so addicting at the same time so read at your own risk.
Sophia’s advice: I love fantasy and romance, so for those I would suggest Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. It’s technically a standalone series but the Shadow and Bone series does come first but I thought Six of Crows was better. I’ve read this book over five times because of how good it was and it’s one of those books where it doesn’t rely too heavily on the romance which is something that I like, but there is still that romance subplot.
Question: I’ve been feeling really anxious lately? How can I cope?
Olivia’s advice: I know everyone says this and it’s probably the last thing you want to hear, but breathe. Personally if I’m feeling anxious I like to do this breathing exercise where you breathe in for 5 seconds, then out for 5 seconds, then in for 4, and then out for 4…all the way down to one. I hope this works for you too, and I wish you luck.
Sophia’s advice: I get anxious sometimes, and I find that journaling helps me sort things out. Being able to write things down can help organize your thoughts when you’re having trouble and sometimes it can make a problem that you thought was really big, seem like something smaller and easier to overcome. Writing is a good alternative, as there may be times when you might not feel comfortable talking to someone, which is ok.
