As summer slowly approaches us, some highly-anticipated movies are also coming out over the next few months. Along with sequels to our favorites, there are some movies and concepts that we’re going to experience for the first time this summer. All the way from kids movies, to Marvel, to Greek mythology, these movies are expected to make a huge impact in our film world. Listed here are the movies being released soon.
The Mandalorian and Grogu – May 22nd
Even though The Mandalorian and Grogu isn’t coming out in the summer necessarily, it’s still considered a movie that’s being released shortly. It is a Star Wars action-adventure film following bounty hunter Din Djarin and his apprentice, Grogu, as they navigate the post-Imperial galaxy. The pair work for the New Republic, hunting down scattered Imperial warlords and facing dangerous, high-stakes missions to protect the galaxy’s future. Basically perfect for Star Wars fans.
Masters of the Universe – June 5th
The 2026 Masters of the Universe live-action film, directed by Travis Knight, follows Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine), who returns to Eternia after 15 years on Earth to find his home destroyed by Skeletor (Jared Leto). Adam must embrace his destiny as He-Man, uniting with allies like Teela and Man-At-Arms to save his family and world. This movie serves as a modern, live-action re-imagining of the classic 1980s Mattel toy line of action figures, the Masters of the Universe cartoon, and 1987 film with the same title.
Toy Story 5 – June 19th
Toy Story 5 follows Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the other characters of the Toy Story franchise as they face a modern threat: kids preferring tablets and technology over traditional toys. The plot focuses on the toys fighting to remain relevant in a screen-obsessed world, with Jessie taking a leading role to save the group when Bonnie becomes engrossed with a new electronic device.
Supergirl –June 26th
A new sci-fi superhero film is being released this summer as well, this one directed by Craig Gillespie. When an unexpected adversary strikes close to her home, Kara Zor-El is forced to join forces with an unlikely companion on an epic journey. Adapted from the comic series, the story focuses on Kara encountering a young alien warrior who enlists her help to hunt down a space pirate who killed her father. Unlike her cousin Superman (who was sent to Earth as a baby and grew up loved), Kara grew up watching her home-world of Argo City survive and then eventually perish.
Moana (Live Action) – July 10th
Disney’s highly anticipated live-action Moana brings the 2016 animated classic to life. Directed by Thomas Kail, known for co-directing Hamilton and Grease Live!, the film follows the adventurous Moana (Catherine Laga’aia) as she voyages beyond the reef with the shape-shifting demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) to restore the heart of Te Fiti and save her people.
The Odyssey – July 17th
Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is a fantasy-action film starring Matt Damon as the legendary Greek king of Ithaca. It tells the story of his perilous 10-year journey home after the Trojan War. Struggling to avoid mythical beasts, angry gods, and psychological trials, he fights to reunite with his wife Penelope.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day – July 31st
Brand New Day follows Peter Parker working by himself in New York City. Set four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter lives completely isolated after voluntarily erasing his civilian identity from the memories of everyone he loves, just as he battles a mysterious, dangerous new threat and goes through an alarming physical evolution.
