As the fall sports seasons are now over, basketball teams are excited to start preparing for the winter season. There are so many things to look forward to in the winter including tryouts, up-and-coming players, practices, and games and while we start preparing, let’s take a look at a quick overview of all the basketball teams Brewster has to offer and how they did last year.

Girls JV Basketball – Girls JV is a very important sport to play as we get some new players to eventually play for the varsity team in the future. WIth Girls JV Basketball going 8-10 last year, we’re excited to see the new freshman play on the team this year and what they will bring to the table. Get excited to see them play a great season!

Boys JV Basketball -The boys brought the heat last season! It will get harder and harder going up to varsity. This team went 5-15 for last year’s record, and hopefully we will get some new freshman faces on this team this year that we can watch them play and perform for all Brewster to see!

Girls Varsity Basketball – Basketball is one of the many popular sports here at Brewster, and Girls Varsity is especially one of the most popular, mostly because of their impressive record of 11-11 last year, but also because of the amazing dedication and hard work the varsity team put in every year. With Homers, John Jay, Yorktown, and Byram Hills in their league, Coach Castillo and Coach Cunningham are going to do a great job coaching this team to victory this season. I know that the whole school is ready to see what they have in store.

Boys Varsity Basketball – This is an impressive team with a lot to live up to after last year’s impressive performance. (They were 8-13 last year.) And according to Coach Weltman who is one of the varsity coaches, he said, “We were very competitive and showed a lot of improvement from the year before. We will have 9 returning players and are very excited for the season.”

10-12 of all the teams with basketball included made it to the second round of the Section 1 tournament. This is extremely impressive from all the sports teams! It’s going to be hard to live up to, but I’m sure we can do it.
