Why You Should Start Following Your Dreams Right Now

It’s 2018 and seeing as you’ve made it through another year, why not actually follow your dreams this year? Why not make your dreams a reality and make those dreams attainable goals? I want to be a singer but I need to set smaller goals such as practicing for an hour a day, taking vocal lessons, and starting a YouTube channel where I post covers to eventually reach my dream of becoming a singer. Nothing comes easyily; everything takes hard work. The worst thing that could happen is that you fail.

In Jim Carrey’s newest documentary, he says, “Why fail at what you don’t love when you can do what you love?” Why spend your life doing something that you dread and can fail at when you can pursue your passion? Honestly, I think we often forget that we’re meant to be here and we can do incredible things that can change the world if we put the effort in.

Sometimes we get so caught up that we forget to live in the moment. Selena Quintanilla said that, “The impossible is always possible,” and I believe her. The thing is, we see celebrities and think, wow I wish that was me. Celebrities worked so hard to be where they are, but as consumers we only see the final product. We only see the finished album or the basketball game the team lost, and we only see what the media wants us to see. We don’t take into account how much work was put in.

One of the cliché reasons as to why you should follow your dreams is because then you’ll have no regrets. Many people can agree with me if I say I don’t want to be eighty years old and look back on my life and think of all the things I wanted to do and didn’t do. I want to live every day to the fullest, whether it’s just hanging out with friends or going to a concert. I want to accomplish my dreams not only for myself, but for my family and my community. I want to make a change in this world whether it be small or big. If I can do it so can you.

So, make this year the beginning of your journey towards your dream. Take the first steps right now. It won’t become a reality on its own, and even if you fail, at least you can say that you tried, but when you succeed, you can always point to now as the moment when you first began.
