The 2025 Met Gala, held on May 5th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, was not only a glamorous event but was also a powerful tribute to Black fashion. This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” honored Black creativity and dandy-ism, a theme powerfully brought to life on the red carpet. The official dress code encouraged guests to embrace suiting and sharp tailoring in ways that were personal and expressive. The result was a night full of unique outfits, meaningful designs, and unforgettable moments!
This event was co-chaired by Colman Domigo, Lewis Hamitlon, A$AP Rocky, Pharrel Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair. The theme was inspired by the Costume Institute spring exhibition and the work of Dr. Monica L. Miller, whose book Slaves to Fashion explores how Black identity has been expressed through clothing across history. Now, here were some of my favorite red carpet looks from the night!
Zendaya
She stood out in a bold custom suit by Louis Vuitton. It had strong shoulders, a fitted waist, and a long train. She wore a wide hat and dark makeup, which gave her a powerful look.
Rihanna
She turned heads in a corset-style black dress by Marc Jacobs, revealing her baby bump and announcing her third pregnancy! She also had a long coat and sparkling accessories on this night.
Alex Consani
She made her Met Gala debut in a costume white-structured gown with sharp lines and futuristic style made by Swaroski and stylist Carlos Nazario. This look showed her as one of fashion’s rising stars.
Ciara
She made a big impression in a silver bead gown by Michael Kors. The dress sparkled under the lights, and she paired it with sleek hair and very little jewelry, letting the outfit speak for itself.
Sabrina Carpenter
She wore a burgundy Louis Vuitton bodysuit, styled by Pharrell Williams. The look didn’t include pants, where she later revealed in an interview was because of how short she is. Completing the look: heels and diamond jewelry.
Janelle Monáe
A custom Thom Browne outfit that was a mix of fun and elegance under a silky coat with designs that looked like a tie and briefcase over a long matching skirt. She finished the look with a black hat and cool accessory, giving her outfit a playful and creative touch.
Lewis Hamilton
He came out in a custom cream-colored suit by Wales Bonner. The outfit included a cropped jacket, high-waisted pants with a tuxedo stripe, coattails, and a white bow tie.
Anok Yai
She turned heads in a Thom Browne creation that screamed Old Hollywood glamour. She wore a sleeveless black gown with a fitted top that looked like a jacket, complete with sleeves tied at her hips. The dress flared out at the bottom with a white hem, giving it the shape of a ball gown.
Gigi Hadid
She stunned in a custom gold sequin gown by Miu Miu styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson. The dress had clear crystals and thin halter straps. It was inspired by Zelda Wynn Valdes and Josephine, honoring their lasting impact on style today.
Kim Kardashian
She came out in a bold-two piece outfit by Chrome Hearts. She wore a black leather corset with a long matching skirt, and added a leather hat, a pearl belt, and sparkling diamond jewelry.
This year’s Met Gala wasn’t just about fashion, but it also had a powerful message: to honor Black culture and style, showing how important fashion can be in telling stories. This year’s Met Gala was full of amazing outfits and unforgettable moments, reminding us that fashion isn’t just about looking good, but it’s about who you are.
