As the snow melts and the flowers dazzle, we know that winter is finally over and it’s time to get outside and explore mother nature’s beauty. Spring is considered one of the best times for soaking in all of nature. There are numerous attractions in New York that give you these types of opportunities to get out of your house and enjoy the beautiful weather with those you care about. Here are the top 5 attractions:
The Botanical Garden
This is one of my favorite NYC springtime attractions ever mainly because of the vast acreage and the large variety of plants. Besides just being able to tour the gardens, you also get to learn about different plant species. They have fantastic indoor attractions mainly for the educational part of the experience. The Botanical Garden also hosts different events at various times, one of them being the Orchid Show. This show runs from February to April and it displays vibrant orchids inspired by modern Mexican art. If you’re worried about walking too much, they have tour vehicles for easier access around the gardens. It’s an especially amazing place to take photos, and I highly recommend checking it out!
Storm King Art Center
This was another one of my favorite attractions because of how compelling the art is. Storm King is located in Orange County about an hour away from Brewster, and it is perfect if you love being in open terrain. Throughout the exhibit, there are multiple large monumental works crafted by several different sculpture artists. And if you go on a nice spring day, it makes the experience 100x more enjoyable because the art is surrounded by blue skies and extensive greenery. It’s a wonderful atmosphere and I definitely encourage you to pick a day and take a fun road trip here.
Nyack Street Fair
Located about 45 minutes away from Brewster is the city of Nyack, NY, in Rockland County. Several times during the year, starting in springtime is the Nyack Street Fair. There are 200+ vendors with lots of food options and various items to buy. The next scheduled fair is May 18th and it is considered one of the best because there’s live entertainment and fun for the whole family. The best part is being able to just walk straight down Main Street, breathing in that fresh spring air, and not knowing what items you may find. But if you plan on attending, don’t miss out on the lemonade!
NYC Central Park Zoo
Whether you like animals or not, this is another amazing place to visit in the springtime. There’s plenty of space to gaze at the park’s beautiful surroundings. Of course they have lots of cute (and scary) animals but one of the best parts is their 4D theater experience. In this fun experience for all ages, there are a variety of built in sensory effects including 3D vision and possibly some water being sprayed at you. This is another great opportunity to head down to the city and explore.
FDR’s Estate
Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s estate, located in Hyde Park, is an amazing attraction especially for those who love history and nature. This was the house that FDR grew up in and it was built on a massive amount of land. During the springtime, the views are absolutely breathtaking. Besides the panorama, you can learn all about FDR’s history and how he served as the 32nd president of the U.S. It is also the burial place of FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt (former first lady). In his estate he also had a horse barn called “The Stables.” So if you decide to come to this exhibit make sure you check it out!
