The 2025 MLB season is swiftly approaching. As I’m writing this, spring training just ended. With that being said, and the season starting up, we can only wonder who the postseason teams will be. I’m going to dive into my top predictions for this year’s postseason lineup and who I expect to make it to that coveted October spot.
National League
The National League always has big contenders in the postseason. While it was tough narrowing down my list, these are my top picks.
Dodgers – It isn’t much of a surprise that the Dodgers are first on this list. Their franchise is record-breakingly good, and they have some of the best players in the MLB currently. Not only did they win the World Series, but they are a team that is predicted to go 162-0. Either way, they’re the first team for a reason, so it’s no doubt that they will end up winning the NL West.
Padres – The next contender is the San Diego Padres. The Padres are a team that have been able to give the Dodgers a run for their money the last few years. The Padres always seem to have a decent team, especially in the past few seasons. I overall don’t think they will win the division, since the Dodgers are there as well, but I do think that they very much have what it takes to get one of the wild card spots. Players like Tatis, King, and Machado are going to hopefully help them get a ring this year.
Cubs – Now it’s time for the Cubs. The Cubs are an extremely popular team, with a great fanbase. They were not a team that was so great last year, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be on this list. They had an incredible spring training, and I’m excited to see what this season has in store for them. I think they will battle it out for the final wild card spot.
Phillies – Next up, the Phillies are a young star studded team full of great energy and excitement. They seem to be good every year. Of course having Harper, Schwarber, Castellanos, Bohm, and more great players helps. I can really see this team making it far this year since they came short last year of the final 4. I think there is a very high possibility that they will win their division.
Mets – Ah yes, The New York Mets. The Mets were already a pretty good team, but they went out this offseason and got the biggest free agent they could to help add onto that roster. So overall, things are looking good out in Queens. I predict them getting a wild card spot where they can hopefully cause some serious damage this postseason.
Braves – Finally for my 6th and final team on this side of the list, I chose the Atlanta Braves. The Braves are a team with plenty of talent to get them as far as they can this season. They were very good last year, before losing Acuna to a season-ending injury. By getting him back this year, I’m hoping that they will be a team that can make it to the final two. I’m excited to see them play this season and to watch all of the stars.
American League
Not to be forgotten, the American League has their standouts, too. Here are my rankings.
Yankees – It’s not a shock that the Yankees are first on my list in the American League. They’re a team that seems to shock everyone every year, even though they’re pretty good. Going into the season, they have a lot more to prove since Soto isn’t on the team anymore. They went out and made some moves to make up for this. As a big MLB fan I’m positive that they will do well. I’m hoping that they will win their division.
Orioles – The Baltimore Orioles are a very talented team filled with young athletic prospects that have been big contenders overall for the past few years. They 100% have what it takes to make it into the wild card spot like last year. There’s no doubt in my mind they’ll go far this year if they continue playing how they did last year.
Boston – The Boston Red Sox were not playing to their highest potential last year, but they went out and got some really good players this past offseason. I think they could easily be a wild card team. I’m excited to see how they will play this season with all their new additions.
Royals – The Kansas City Royals are always a fun team to watch. For the past year or two they have been really impressive. I think that, like last year, they will be a wild card team or maybe even win the division because of all the talent they have.
Tigers – The Detroit Tigers are a lot better than I thought they’d be. They for sure have improved this past offseason. I think they will be in a similar situation to last year, making it to the wild card and possibly farther. The talent they have is for sure noticeable and could easily be one to watch. I really think they have the highest chance of winning their division.
Astros – We all know the talent behind the Houston Astros. They didn’t play up to their standards last year and MLB fans were disappointed to say the least. The Astros could easily be a team to get back in the swing of things and be as good as they were the year before. They are always a team to watch out for, especially in the postseason. I think there is a high possibility that they could win their division.
Guardians – As an honorable mention for the American League, I wanted to write about the Cleveland Guardians. The Cleveland Guardians did exceptionally well last year, and I think they could easily be a team that can do well again.
With all of these teams ready to fight, the 2025 season is truly going to be one for the history books.
Are you ready?
