What songs are the best?
How good is the album-score?
With all the popular hits of this year, I’m glad to be reviewing one of the most popular albums of the month.
This month, I will be covering one of the hottest albums, Hit Me Hard And Soft, produced by Billie Eilish.
“Skinny” – Rating: 8/10
I love how Billie opens the album with a delicate, melancholic track. The piano is scattered but deeply emotional, letting her voice take charge of the piece. The way she layers soft harmonies gives the song a ghostly feel, making it feel intimate and raw.
“Lunch” – Rating: 9/10
This song is so playful and groovy, with a bass line that pulls you in instantly. Billie’s vocals are amazing and she plays with rhythm and specific phrasing that in a way makes it catchy. The subtle harmonies tucked into the chorus make the song even better.
“Chihiro” – Rating: 8.5/10
The production here is dreamy and spacious, with a hypnotic, pulsing beat that feels almost trance-like. I really like how Billie’s voice glides over it smoothly, and the layered echoes in the background create such a beautiful ethereal effect.
“Birds Of A Feather” – Rating: 9/10
This track has a more straightforward pop structure, but the harmonies are what make it shine. Billie stacks her vocals beautifully, creating a warm, almost nostalgic feeling. I also really liked how the percussion in the background is light but effective in keeping the song moving.
“Wildflower” – Rating: 9.5/10
A slow burn that blossoms beautifully. The instrumental parts start delicate, then build, highlighting Billie’s voice over the chords. The harmonies are so good– even haunting in a way.
“The Greatest” – Rating: 9/10
This song is straight-up dramatic in the best way. It starts super simple, just Billie and the music, making it feel raw and emotional. Then it builds—harmonies stacking, drums kicking in, everything escalating until it feels like she’s totally spiraling. Such a great piece.
“L’amour De Ma Vie” – Rating: 8/10
I really do love this song. It’s soft, wistful, and absolutely devastating. The guitar work keeps things grounded while Billie’s vocals remain light and delicate. Her harmonies in the bridge have a whispery, almost nostalgic quality that gives the song an aching beauty. However, there’s this point towards the middle to the end where the song transitions have a different vibe of music that doesn’t really mesh well.
“The Diner” – Rating: 6/10
Billie taps into her eerie side here—the harmonies are tense, almost unsettling, adding to the thriller-like mood. The distorted vocal effects make the song feel like a fever dream. However, the song is not my favorite in this album since I feel like there could have been more potential—if she added more instruments that blended with her chords, it would have sounded more cohesive.
“Bittersuite” – Rating: 8/10
A roller-coaster of emotions. The song shifts moods several times, and Billie adapts her voice perfectly—sometimes soft and airy, sometimes bold and direct. The harmonies morph throughout, making it hard to perfect what she’s going to do next.
“Blue” – Rating: 9.5/10
This song is just absolutely beautiful. To elaborate, the piece is gentle but melancholic, and Billie’s harmonies feel like they’re wrapping around you like a blanket. And I can’t help but note that the final moments feel like the last scene of a movie— deeply moving.
