2025 is set to be a big year for movies, with a whole lot of remakes, sequels, prequels, and original stories hitting the big screen in the next couple months. Here are a couple of highly anticipated films to keep an eye out for in theaters!
Thunderbolts* – May 2nd
This next installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will show the return of fan favorite characters such as Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine. In the film, the American government assembles a team of misfit anti-heroes to complete a suicide mission. When the Thunderbolts realize their fate, they decide to take down those who tried to send them to their death.
Hurry Up Tomorrow – May 16th
Hurry Up Tomorrow will be a psychological thriller marking the feature film debut of global superstar The Weeknd, he wrote the script for the movie himself, and multiple songs of his will be featured on the soundtrack. The story follows The Weeknd as a fictional version of himself, a pop star on the verge of a psychological meltdown, when he crosses paths with a mysterious stranger named Anima, portrayed by Jenna Ortega. The movie will also star Barry Keoghan as The Weeknd’s manager, Lee.
28 Years Later – June 28th
The much-awaited third installment of this zombie thriller franchise takes place nearly three decades after the outbreak of a raging virus escaped from a biological weapons laboratory. Although they are still living in a time ruled by strict quarantine, some survivors of the pandemic have found a way to live among the infected. A survivor living on a secluded island decides to sneak away to the mainland just to see the horrors that have taken place due to the virus. The film will feature Aaron-Tyler Johnson as Jamie, Jodie Comer as Isla, and Alfie Williams as Spike. The story explores themes of societal collapse, adaptation, and the struggle for survival in a post-apocalyptic world.
Jurassic World Rebirth – July 2nd
The seventh film in the Jurassic Park franchise will follow Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, and Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis. Bennett and Loomis are leading a team of researchers onto the island that held the original Jurassic Park, with a mission to obtain DNA samples from the dinosaurs. These samples could cure human diseases and be of great benefit to mankind. Their risky adventure has the chance to reveal secrets that have been hidden from mankind for decades.
Superman – July 11th
The newest remake of this DC classic will show Clark Kent, played by David Corenswet, as he tries to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage while not betraying his human upbringing. Directed by James Gunn, the film will display an intense relationship between Clark and girlfriend Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, and will mark the first official conflict between Superman and Lex Luther, played by Nicholas Hoult. It will include important introductions like Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25th
In this Marvel remake, a group of astronauts gain superpowers after exposure to high levels of cosmic radiation. The titular family includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. The heroes must use their powers to protect their 1960s inspired, retro-futuristic world from the cosmic being Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson.
