This past season, the Brewster Teachers Association held their annual food drive, asking teachers and students to help support the efforts of Putnam County Community Action Program. By placing paper bags with fliers in and around classrooms, people gave when they could, bringing in a number of items to help those who cannot provide for themselves or their families.

Through the combined efforts of the faculty and students, the district was able to bring in over 3000 lbs of non-perishable items along with several hundred dollars, all of which were brought to the local food pantry to help families in need.

The drive was district-wide, with Mrs. Fine, Mr. Gallacher, Ms. Wool, and Ms. Lussier heading up the high school collection. According to recent Putnam County data, estimates suggest that approximately 19.7% of Brewster residents (2212 people) live below the poverty line, which is higher than the national average of 14.7%. Through the generosity of the Brewster District, the school can help to alleviate the burden of daily living on many local families.
