Bear Facts Revamped: Part Two

Throughout my high school career, I have heard only bits and pieces of information regarding Brewster High School’s online newspaper, Bear Facts.  Due to its lack of publicity, I rarely attended the website.  However, after distributing a survey to my classmates about ways to make the site more appealing¸ I have generated a list of improvements.  Some aspects that I believe would be beneficial for this website are the additions of an advice column, school-wide sports reports, and information regarding upcoming school events such as games, concerts, bake-sales and other
fundraisers.

The advice column would attract students who are in need of guidance but are unsure where to go for it or perhaps are too embarrassed to ask for it. For this reason, this section of the newspaper would be completely anonymous with an unknown student or guidance counselor answering and providing responses to students.  The section would provide students with an environment where they feel comfortable enough to ask any question that is deemed appropriate.

A category about school-wide sports reports would concern everything from the teams, the games and the fans.  When is the next Varsity Basketball game?  Who did they beat last week?  Who was the biggest and loudest fan of the game? What were their thoughts about the game?  A list of the sports would be generated at the beginning of every season, complete with a list of team members and team games so that you don’t miss a game.  And best of all, if you do happen to miss a game, you could look to the school newspaper to tell you what you missed.

Lastly, I believe it is important to add a section about upcoming events at the school.  For students, knowing when to come out and support our school is incredibly important to them and if they were offered a place to access this information, they could do it with ease.  It would be like a school calendar specifically for Brewster High School students and would include the date, time, and details of each event.  Adding a section that provides information about upcoming games, concerts and fundraisers would attract more students who are looking to get involved in the school.

These are just a few of the additions that would greatly improve Brewster Bear Facts.  The enhancements would not only increase the amount of consistent readers who check up on the website  to be up-to-date about what’s going on in Brewster High School but would also attract students who have been less informed about the school newspaper.
